Pocket Dispo Review

A few weeks ago I was scrolling through Instagram and an ad popped up for the Pocket Dispo Lens. Having grown up using disposable film cameras I was fascinated by the idea of getting a disposable film lens on my digital camera. I was a bit skeptical at first not knowing if this just some gimmick or if it would actually work. However, for the price of $50 I did not see the harm in trying.

I purchased mine with the EF-M mount to pair with my Canon M50. Now I use a lot of vintage lenses so this was no issue for me but if you have never set your camera to click the shutter without a lens it won’t work. So be sure to simply go to your menu settings and enable the ability to click the shutter without any lens.

It is a fascinating lens. The manufacturer takes a disposable film lens and pairs it to a 3d printed mount. It fits properly without issue. Being at 28mm it is quite wide although I did not notice it being too wide for my taste seeing that I typically shoot at 40mm. However, I am not entirely sure that being at 28mm is the actual focal length seeing that the EF-M cameras use APS-C sensors. In reality it could be more like 45mm which seems a bit more accurate based on the photos.

One of the challenges I faced was that the lens is very dark. I had to drastically bump up my ISO to get good exposure. I also had to intentionally blow out the highlights to some degree in order to capture what I was hoping for. It took a bit of getting used to but beyond that it is a very straight forward process. Your focus point is dead center and only a few feet away. Anything far away or requiring good detail is not going to come out like your standard lens. However, the photos do look like a disposable camera took them which is the whole point.

Putting these in Lightroom left me feeling like something was missing to a degree. So I did make some minor adjustments to help enhance that disposable film look. You can download these presets in my shop.

This is not a lens that will fit any specific need per se. However, it is fun to shoot with and if your intent is to just go out and have fun than why not give it a shot? If you would like to get it to try for yourself you can use the coupon code: RONALDNATTRESS to get 10% off your entire order.

I do receive a small affiliate pay for each lens purchased through my link and coupon code. However, this does not add anything to your cost and can result in savings for you as well.
